IMPRESSIONISM



The Impressionists wanted to portray the play of sunlight on color and the different effects this produced.  They were also motivated to paint a moment or instant in time.  Combining these aims with painting out of doors (plein-aire) caused the Impressionists to paint very rapidly. The result was an “Impression” of a scene.

The students painted Monet's Japanese Bridge using acrylic paint.  They painted very quickly in the manner of the Impressionists so that the painting would be complete before the "sun moved"
